Australia is home to many cultures, which is a result of its history of immigration. Since 1780’s, Australian’s culture has been strongly influenced by Western culture. Other influences include Australian Aboriginal cultures.
Australia has over 100,000 Aboriginal rock art sites. And many traditional designs, patterns and stories from the Indigenous Australians. Early colonial artists showed a fascination with the unfamiliar land. Popular Australian artists are Arthur Streeton, Tom Roberts, Margaret Preston, Sidney Nolan, and Arthur Boyd Australia has one of the world's highest attendances of art galleries and museums per head of population.
Australian literature grew following the European settlement. Adam Lindsay Gordon became the first Australian poet to attain a wide readership. Henry Lawson and Banjo Paterson also became popular. Miles Franklin was awarded the best novel about Australian life. Patrick White won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1973.

Most Indigenous Australian groups subsisted on a simple hunter-gatherer diet of native plants and animals. The first settlers the British and Irish introduced their cuisine to the continent. Popular dishes are fish and chips and meat pie. Australia is a leading exporter and consumer of wine. The nation also has many breweries. Australia is also known for its cafe and coffee culture as well.
