Tahiti is an island located within French Polynesia. It is the largest of all 118 islands that make up French Polynesia. The island was originally formed from volcanic activity and has 2 volcanoes located on it. Tahiti has a rich and intriguing history. Originally settled by the Polynesians between 500 BC and 500 AD. Later Tahiti was claimed by the British and eventually the French. Tahiti is rich in culture, blending Polynesian heritage and French culture. Many Polynesian customs and lively traditions remain. Polynesian culture has deep roots in the mythical origins of a great seafarers who originally settled in the islands 3,000 years ago. This culture has been passed from generation from generation.
